Hoke County's Land Use Plan

Planning Process

The Land Use Plan is expected to be completed over a 12-month timeframe, beginning in February 2025. The major tasks include conducting background research, receiving feedback from the public, and developing a new plan to guide land use and development decisions. The process is outlined below.

Project Approach

At the onset of the project, a significant amount of planning and coordination will go into the gathering of background data and existing planning materials. At the same time, strategies to solicit feedback from the public will be developed. This combination of analytical data and public information will be utilized to help draft the Land Use Plan update.

Major Project Steps

Research & Public Input
February - June

The first phase of the project involves collecting background data, analyzing existing conditions, and getting initial input from the public. This will include extensive research, mapping, an online community survey, and a public kickoff event.

Prepare First Draft
June - August

After the initial background research and first round of public input is complete, the consulting team will work with County Staff and the Planning Board to develop the first draft of the Land Use Plan. This is estimated to be completed over the summer.

Public Input on Draft
September - October

After the Planning Board finalizes the first draft of the Land Use Plan, it will be released to the public for review. The public will be able to view the draft online, provide comments, and attend a public meeting to share feedback.

Prepare The Final Plan
October - February 26

When the public has provided feedback on the intial draft, the final Land Use Plan will be developed. The Plan will go through the formal adoption process, including meetings with the Planning Board and Commissioners.
